Legal Rules
By entering a manuscript, the writer agrees to the following terms and conditions and will be required to sign and agree to a more detailed publishing contract at a later date determined by Southwest Human Development:
- Manuscript entered is free from lien or claim by anyone other than writer.
- Writer has obtained all rights, permissions, and licenses necessary.
- Manuscript does not infringe on any trademark or copyright held by a third party.
- Writer agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Southwest Human Development from any claims, suits, losses, damages, and expenses (including reasonable attorney's fees) that may arise from violation of the terms and conditions previously described.
- Southwest Human Development is not responsible for any difficulties or problems associated with the entering of manuscripts within the designated time frame.
- By entering a manuscript, the writer agrees that if his/her manuscript reaches the Final Selection Committee, to allow Southwest Human Development to conduct a background check.
- The writer agrees that if his/her manuscript is chosen for publication as the First Edition Book for that year they will be available to sign a contract to formalize this agreement within two weeks of notification.
- The First Edition Project agrees to accept entries from outside of the United States submitted by American citizens currently residing in a different country and from non American citizens who read, write, and speak English. In both instances, If chosen, the writer must be able to fulfill all the terms of the First Edition Project contract or the manuscript will be eliminated.
